Vaunted Nineties hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, whose five albums blending jazz and rap set a sonic template that continues to reverberate and influence today, will kickstart a massive reissue campaign on November 13th with the re-release of their groundbreaking 1990 debut Peoples’ Instinctive Travels And The Paths of Rhythm.

The re-release will feature new remixes by as-yet-unnamed artists and will be remastered by Bob Power, the engineer best known for his work with D’Angelo and the Roots who worked with Tribe on the group’s first three albums. A complete list of remixes will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I had this album in my head for years before I did it,” Q-Tip said in a statement. “Looking at it overall, to see the thoughts of a 16-year-old gain any kind of acknowledgement makes me feel like I have arrived … But to see it in this incarnation … I’m humbled.”

“This album means a lot,” added member Ali Shaheed Muhammad. “It was the beginning of our careers; the beginning of our imprint; the beginning of seeing life the way we saw it, and being able to put it down in words and music.”

The new edition will be the first of numerous reissues the band plans to put out “over the course of the next few years,” though the group has yet to detail future reissues. The group last released a studio album in 1998 with The Love Movement.

Since then, the band’s trajectory has been marked with a steady flow of infighting, break-ups and reunions, most notably documented in Michael Rapaport’s film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest.

In 2013, the group came together for two shows to support Kanye West’s Yeezus tour at Madison Square Garden. One month before the show, Q-Tip tweeted that the two shows would be the group’s last.

A Tribe Called Quest has released a teaser video to celebrate the reissue
