Sister Sledge has announced that they will continue to perform, with sisters Debbie and Kim, in the wake of Friday’s passing of Joni Sledge.
Joni was found dead in her apartment on Friday from an, as yet, unknown cause at the age of 60.
Sister Sledge originally included four members of the Sledge family, Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy. Kathy left the group in 1989 to pursue a solo career.
The Sister Sledge website is still listing shows as soon this coming Saturday in Charenton, LA with another late April show and a series of European appearances starting May 19. So far, there has been no announcement about the status of those appearances; however, it has been confirmed that they will be appearing at Spring Fest in Edinburgh, Scotland’s Corn Exchange on May 27. That show will be dedicated to the memory of Joni Sledge.
The official statement:
Sister Sledge will continue with their 2017 concert schedule.
Sister Sledge – Debbie, Kim and the Sledge family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all who have extended their love and support during this difficult and challenging time of mourning, in the wake of the passing of our beloved sister Joni Sledge.
Joni was a beautiful person, phenomenal artist and producer, a brilliant business woman and a powerhouse! One of her greatest loves and joys was performing live with her family. In the spirit of Joni’s powerful strength of character, zest for life and spreading joy through music, we are committed to continuing her legacy. Therefore, in this new 2017 concert season, and in the true Sister Sledge family tradition, we will embrace and celebrate Joni, dedicating every concert in honor of her remarkable and beautiful life. WE ARE SISTERS. We are one… We are Flo’s daughters.
